About the Client

Located in Machias, Maine, Down East Community Hospital is a 25-bed acute care facility and Critical Access Hospital serving communities throughout Washington County. In August 2005, DECH officially received its “Critical Access Hospital Designation” with twenty-five licensed acute care beds. Over the past ten years, in addition to the offering of exceptional primary care services such as Family Practice, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics/Gynecological services, DECH has specialty care services such as Podiatry, Urology, Otolaryngology (ENT), General Surgery including minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, Orthopedics, and Pain Medicine.

Project Summary

After implementing Oracle Cerner CommunityWorks, Down East Community Hospital engaged Avarion, now part of Med Tech Solutions, to assess and optimize its revenue cycle operations. The engagement began with a comprehensive review of revenue cycle workflows, system configuration, performance metrics, and operational processes to identify gaps impacting financial performance and align operations with industry best practices.

Building on the initial assessment, MTS-Avarion provided continued advisory support focused on payer contract compliance, revenue cycle staffing alignment, operational governance, and Revenue Cycle Director mentorship. Through a combination of data analysis, stakeholder interviews, workflow reviews, and strategic guidance, the team developed prioritized recommendations and an actionable 30/60/90-day roadmap to help strengthen revenue cycle performance and drive sustainable improvement.
